...Driving down to Muravera, the main town
of the Sarrabus district, renowned for its citrus fruit
festival held each spring, the road winds along the rio
Cannas stream, interspersed by small ponds and deep pools
of clear water encircled by oleander bushes and Mediterranean
shrub. The coastal area of Muravera, a tourist destination
among the most popular of the whole of Sardinia, also
has great environmental value. To the east lies the beach
at the mouth of the Flumendosa River; just behind it spreads
a wetland area rich in fish and birdlife. As we proceed
farther south we reach the beach of San Giovanni, followed
by the beach of the Saline, overlooked by the imposing
ruins of the Salinas watchtower. Finally, we reach the
beach of Colostrai, encircled by the wetlands of the same
name and by the Feraxi wetland, nowadays the site of a
thriving fishery.
